Making BTC a Productive Asset
Bitcoin is the world’s most secure, widely recognized digital asset. Yet, for most BTC holders, it remains an unproductive asset—incurring custody fees instead of generating returns. While DeFi has unlocked countless yield opportunities across stablecoins and other crypto assets, BTC yield products have remained largely unappealing due to high counterparty risk, complexity, and questionable long-term sustainability.
That’s where Maple’s BTC Yield product comes in.
By leveraging Core Network’s dual staking, Maple enables BTC holders to earn native BTC yield—securely, transparently, and without lending risk. Unlike other BTC “yield” programs that rely on points, tokens, or lending to counterparties, Maple’s offering generates real BTC-denominated returns through staking, not lending.
Why Staking, Not Lending?
For most BTC holders, lending their Bitcoin isn’t an attractive proposition. Many have built their stacks over years of careful stewardship, and giving up control to a counterparty comes with significant risk. BTC borrow rates are often too low to justify that risk, making lending an inefficient solution for long-term holders.
Core Network’s dual staking model provides an alternative, allowing BTC holders to stake assets alongside CORE tokens to earn validator rewards on the network:
- No Counterparty Risk – Yield is generated through staking, not lending to borrowers.
- No Slashing Risk – Unlike ETH staking, Core’s staking model does not involve slashing, eliminating the risk of principal loss due to network penalties.
- BTC Yield, Not Points – Many so-called “BTC yield” programs pay in platform tokens or points. With Maple, returns are denominated in BTC, ensuring real value accrual for depositors.
Why Maple?
BTC holders looking to participate in Core staking at scale face operational challenges. Maple abstracts all complexity, providing a seamless, institutional-grade solution for earning BTC yield:
- One-Click Access – No need to purchase, stake, or manage CORE tokens. Maple handles everything.
- Institutional Custody – BTC never leaves qualified custody (Copper, BitGo) and is never wrapped or rehypothecated.
- Battle-Tested Risk Management – Maple actively hedges exposure to CORE emissions, ensuring a risk-adjusted approach.
- On-Chain Transparency – Custody vaults are verifiable 24/7, giving depositors full visibility into their assets.
This isn’t another DeFi experiment—it’s institutional grade BTC yield, engineered for scale.
How Yield Is Generated
BTC yield on Maple is powered by Core Dual Staking, allowing BTC holders to earn staking rewards while their assets remain securely custodied.
Step 1: BTC Deposits & Secure Custody
- Lenders deposit BTC into a Maple-managed vault, held with qualified custodians (Copper, BitGo).
- BTC never leaves institutional custody and is never wrapped, rehypothecated, or transferred off the BTC network.
Step 2: Maple Acquires CORE Tokens & Hedges Risk
- Maple borrows CORE tokens to participate in dual staking while purchasing protective put options to hedge price volatility. This hedging approach allows the strategy to retain upside if CORE price appreciates.
Step 3: BTC + CORE Dual Staking
- BTC and Maple’s CORE tokens are dual staked, earning CORE token rewards at the highest staking tier.
Step 4: BTC Yield Payouts
- CORE emissions are converted back to BTC as they are earned, and distributed to allocators at maturity.
What's Next? The Future of BTC Yield with Maple
Maple has seen strong institutional demand for BTC yield since launch, leading to an expansion of capacity. As BTC holders increasingly seek non-lending solutions for yield generation, we expect staking-based products to grow as a core piece of on-chain institutional capital markets.
A tokenized version (lstBTC) of Maple’s BTC Yield product is also in development, creating even greater flexibility for depositors. Read more here.
For institutional and accredited investors looking for secure, BTC-denominated yield, Maple provides the first scalable, non-lending BTC yield solution.
